Invisalign® Teen

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of clear, near-invisible appliances that fit over your teen’s teeth to align them. They’ll wear each set of aligners, or trays, for about two weeks; and the teeth are eventually positioned into their optimal position without having to wear braces. We’ll provide your teen with a few sets of trays at each visit, so you’ll only need to visit us about once every six weeks.

Is My Child a Good Candidate for Invisalign?

For starters, Invisalign is for permanent teeth only, so if your child still has any baby teeth, then they are most likely not currently a candidate for Invisalign. Check back with us when they have all of their adult teeth!

Additionally, Invisalign works best for people with mild to moderate crowding or spacing issues, and relatively well aligned jaws. So, large skeletal discrepancies, such as severe overbites, underbites, or open bites should be treated with a combination of other appliances. We are happy to assess your teen’s situation and provide you with the best treatment plan for their particular case.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Many patients report temporary discomfort the first few days after a new aligner is fitted. This is due to minor movements and bone regrowth around the teeth.

Does Invisalign Work?

Absolutely! If your teen is willing to wear the aligners, Invisalign works great! However, it is important to work with an experienced and knowledgeable provider, because Invisalign requires a great deal of knowledge regarding the biology behind tooth movement. Dr Kinoian was among the very first group of doctors in the area trained in Invisalign, so he is a seasoned pro!

Why Invisalign?

Patients who use Invisalign experience several advantages over traditional braces, including:

  • Freedom to eat and drink what they choose
  • Virtually invisible hardware
  • Easy and proper oral hygiene without the hindrance of an orthodontic wire
  • Less frequent office visits
  • Usually less discomfort than metal wires or brackets
  • Option to whiten your teeth during treatment with the dental trays
  • Ability to remove aligners for special occasions if necessary
  • Fewer cavities post-treatment than with metal braces
  • No poking wires or brackets

Invisalign Instructions

  • Wear your aligners at least 22 hours/day, removing only to brush, floss, eat, or for the rare special occasion.
  • Keep aligners in their case anytime they’re not in your mouth.
  • Clean aligners daily with toothpaste and toothbrush or denture cleanser.
  • Keep aligners away from hot temperatures including hot water, car dashboards, washing machine and dryer, etc.
  • Practice speaking whenever you change aligners, as it may take a few days to adjust.
