You probably don’t think of pediatric dentistry when you think of teeth whitening, and indeed, it isn’t for young children, whose baby teeth will be replaced by permanent ones. According to the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s recommendations, teeth whitening is safe and approved for children 14 and older. At Murray Hill Pediatric Dentistry, we offer two options of teeth whitening for teens: KöR and GLO.
KöR Teeth Whitening
KöR is a take-home and in-office, light-free whitening system that uses a gel and trays that you can wear at night while you sleep. This brand contains a desensitizing agent to combat the sensitivity that some patients report with other whitening systems. Patients can expect their teeth to appear up to 16 shades whiter. Once the take home kit is complete, the patient will come back for an hour of whitening in the office.
GLO Vials® Teeth Whitening Gel
The GLO Vials® teeth whitening system is also one that patients take home with them. It’s a simple, easy-to-apply gel designed to avoid sensitivity. Many GLO users can expect to see a 12-shade improvement in the whiteness of their teeth.
Icon ® Treatment for White Spots
White spots on children’s permanent teeth can be developmental, environmental or may form during orthodontic treatment. These white spots can be removed with a non-invasive, drill-free surface treatment called Icon®. The procedure involves a mild etching process followed by the application of a special resin which infiltrates the microscopic pores of the tooth, producing a more uniform color.
